Services

The One-Stop Hualapai WIA Program will provide training and learning opportunities to eliminate barriers that ultimately result in permanent employment and self-sufficiency. The program is a combination of services including:

  • assessments

  • career exploration

  • work readiness

  • traditional education

  • classroom training

The program provides a support structure and monitoring system to identify and prevent barriers through active follow-up services which is essential for successful outcomes.

Purpose

The purpose of the one-stop Title I of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 is to provide workforce investment training activities that increase the employment, retention and earnings of participants; and to increase occupational skill attainment by participants who are willing to improve the quality of the workforce, reduce welfare dependency, and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the Nation’s economy. These goals are achieved through the workforce investment system.
The WIA program is designed to help train individuals members take the steps they need to get and keep a good job. This program is available at the Department of Hualapai Education & Training. Different programs are tailored to the needs of youth and adults on the Hualapai Reservation.

Eligibility Checklist

Our funding sources require the following documents be submitted before determining your eligibility for WIA services:

  • Birth certificate
  • Social Security card
  • Tribal affiliation
  • Household verification
  • Income verification
  • Selective Service Registration for males born on or after January 1, 1960
  • Proof of school status*

WIA Youth Program

The Hualapai WIA program is designed to improve the skills of our youth through the completion of:

  • Basic skills
  • High school education/GED
  • Career exploration
  • Technical college/university enrollment, including financial assistance for post secondary education in high demand career areas and work readiness skills such as
    • Making career decisions
    • Using labor market information
    • Preparing resumes
    • Filling out applications
    • Interviewing skills
    • Survival/daily living skills
    • Being punctual
    • Maintaining regular attendance
    • Demonstrating positive attitudes & behavior
    • Presenting appropriate appearance
    • Exhibiting good interpersonal relations
    • Completing tasks effectively

Program Goals

  1. At least twenty-five percent of all NEW program TANF recipients will obtain unsubsidized employment

    • Objective- Provide necessary education and training and related activities to all eligible TANF clients

  2. Increase the number of GED recipients by at least 10% each year

    • Objective- Provide applicable TANF recipients with GED classes and tutoring

Eligibility

Only enrolled Hualapai tribal members and their spouses are eligible for the Native Employment Works (NEW) program due to limited funding.  We will serve persons who are:

  • NEW participants receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • referred to the Hualapai Education and Training Department by the AZ State DES program from Kingman, AZ

There are 10-15 participants per year referred to our Department.  All of these NEW participants are parents with children and are in need of assistance.

All the activities will be provided by a part time NEW assistant who will perform outreach,  transport the NEW Participants to the office, and assist with job searches.  The NEW part time Assistant will be paid by the NEW Program.
