Native American Toys for Tots

The Hualapai Police Department is preparing for the delivery of toys to the youth this Christmas.  Please donate (1) Christmas wrapping paper, (2) tape, (3) bows, (4) ribbons, and (4) your time to deliver toys.  Donations should be dropped off with Wanda Quasula at the Police Department.  Delivery volunteers are needed December 22nd and possibly December 23rd.  Please call Officer Goins at 928.769.1024 to volunteer.

Elderly Thanksgiving Luncheon

November 22, 2011- Chairwoman Louise Benson and Councilwomen Wynona Sinyella and Sherri Yellowhawk joined the elders for an early Thanksgiving luncheon at the Elderly Center.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner November 21, 2011- Young and old broke bread at the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the Tribal Gymnasium.  Thank you all who helped out!

Councilwoman Hunter Takes 1st In Her Age Division at Tri-Athalon

November 6, 2011- Congratulations to Councilwoman Candida Hunter for coming in first in the women’s age 30-34 division at the 2011 Blue Water Resort and Casino Tri-athalon.  Her finish time was 1:17:14.9, 20:09 swim, 3.20 transition, 29.24 bike, 1:15 transition, and 23:05 run.

Bird Group Invited to Share Hualapai Culture at Coconino High School

November 17, 2011- The Native American Club of Coconino High School invited a Hualapai Bird Group to perform in Flagstaff, AZ.  Those who went were Deleane Benson, Antara Twobulls, Sonwai Jackson, Elson Bender, Ivan Bender, Clayburn Nodman and Bennett Jackson. Without the coordinated efforts of Bennett Jackson, Christine Lee and our accounting department, the priviledge of sharing our Hualapai culture would not have been possible.  The group would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the trip a success!  Photo Courtesy of Darlene Bender.

Hualapai Father Shares Life Story

October 3, 2011- Hualapai tribal member, Manny Siyuja, spoke on what is like being a single father while attending Northern Arizona University at the Arizona Indian Education Association American Indian Youth Conference held on the Arizona State University campus in Tempe, AZ.

Hualapai Woman Competes in 50th Miss Indian Arizona Scholarship Pageant October 08, 2011- Adina Hunter, Miss Hualapai 2010-11, competed against seven other contestants in the 50th Miss Indian Arizona Scholarship Pageant.  The pageant’s theme was “The Spirit of the Crown: Celebrating Indian Women of Courage and Vision” and was held at the Chandler Center for the Arts, Chandler, AZ.  Photo courtesy of TINHORN CONSULTING, LLC.

June 2, 2011- Out of the 10 candidates running for the Office of Chairperson, the top two candidates are:

1. Louise Benson with 108 votes.
2. Candida Hunter with 90 votes.

The candidates with the two highest number of votes in the primary election (June 2, 2011) will proceed to the general election (July 7, 2011).  The candidate receiving the highest number of votes in the general election will be declared the winner, and the winner will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term of the Office of Chairman.

* ABSENTEE VOTING WILL BE PERMITTED *
The election board will honor all requests for absentee ballots, however, each voter is responsible for returning an absentee ballot before the close of the poll on election day.
