Award presented by Grandmaster Sung Ahn (left).
For the past two consecutive years, Hualapai Tribe Council, Hualapai Police Department, and Peach Springs School District have jointly supported a special Taekwondo summer camp at the Music Mountain High School, sponsored by The Light of the Lord Community Church(LLCC) located in Santa Clara, CA. This program strives to encourage and instill healthy physical, mental, and social training and discipline for the Hualapai children and youth. The participants of the program spend a week together, along with the staff, in a live-in training environment, sharing all aspects of life together. They learn about mental and physical discipline through taekwondo taught by an 8th degree black belt grandmaster, Sung Ahn and his staff, and the participants also experience one-of-a-kind social interaction and intellectual training through many hands-on science, music, and arts & craft sessions. While the children and the staff eat, sleep, learn, train, and have fun together, they have the opportunities to share about their goals and dreams, build honorable character traits for success, and strive together to bring about positive changes for their individual lives as well as the communities around them.
The inception and the organization of this positive and effective program could not have been possible without the cooperative efforts and support by many leaders of the Hualapai community, and as such, an honorary black belt in Taekwondo from the World Taekwondo Federation was awarded to Chairman – Dr. Damon Clarke, Vice-Chairman – Mr. Philbert Watahomigie, and the Director of Human Resources – Mr. Rudy Clarke in recognition of their instrumental roles and support.
The Hualapai community leaders, the families and friends of the participants, as well as all LLCC staff excitedly look forward to the continued development of the program.
